OFFICIAL TOUR

Throughout the four-day event, a series of Official Bus Tours will take place, with local tour guides taking visitors on one of twelve different routes – each featuring three or four local factories. In addition to activities at each of the factories, visitors will be able to experience the beautiful local scenery while hearing insights from the local tour guides.

RECEPTION

At this year’s “Tsubame-Sanjo Factory Festival,” six of the factories will stay open during the night for reception parties. Visitors can communicate with the artisans, who have done their day’s job.
At some of the receptions, special events will be held for the visitors to enjoy the unique environments of the factories. Please make sure to visit those factories at night while you are in Tsubame-Sanjo for the Factory Festival.

Official Reception

10.1  18:30-20:30 

At the official reception, artisans from participating factories will gather and welcome visitors with the special workshops and local delicacies. Temporary stalls will be open, where visitors can experience the local product making as well as have delicious food on the tableware made in the area. The venue, Sanjo Betsuin, was founded in 1690, as the branch temple of Otani-ha to oversee the smaller temples in the northern part of Japan. The temple will be lit up with 3d projection mapping, covering the temple with pink stripes, which symbolize Factory Festival. Also, a tour will be held in which visitors can explore the Honji-Koji, the narrow approach to the temple, which used to prosper with taverns and teahouses. The street is one of the well known nightlife district in Japan even today, filled with restaurants, pubs and bars.

Celebrating the opening of Tadafusa Factory, special talk by three founders of the knife workshop will be held. Visitors will be treated with snack prepared by DAIDOCO and drinks by Nakano Shuten, liquor shop with wide selection of local sake. (Snack and drink included)

GYOKUSENDO, a registered tangible cultural property, will host a special concert for Hiromi Motomiya, the flutist who is a PR ambassador of Tsubame-city. After the concert, the visitors can join the tour of the factory at night. (Includes one drink)

Factory Festival presents Workwear Runway! Artisans from participating factories will walk on the runway, dressed up in their own uniforms. After the show, dinner party will be held where the visitors can enjoy the food prepared by the chefs of Tsubame-Sanjo Italian “bit.” (Fee includes the dinner)

EVENT

During “Tsubame-Sanjo Factory Festival,” various events will be held at several locations in the area. In addition to the factories and workshops, visitors can enjoy many aspects of Tsubame-Sanjo’s product making, food, and history: a temporal market with long history and tradition; special café where the local farmers offers their specialty food; trade fair where the high-tech companies gather… Please make sure to visit them while you are in the area.

E2 Rokusaiichi Market Nishichi-no-ichi

A pop-up market that regularly takes place in Sanjo, Rokusaiichi Market is said to date back to 1569. On the days with number 2 and 7 each month, the market offers local vegetables, kuruma-bu (Sanjo’s famous wheel-shaped gluten cakes) and stick-shaped Poppo-yaki cakes.

“Morning at the Farm Cafe” was created by local farmers to serve delicious food at the local farm so that the visitors can experience the joy of farming by having breakfast as well as experience farming. The National Industry and Tourism Forum in TsubameSanjo gathers municipal authorities and related corporations in the areas where industrial tourism is being promoted for them to communicate and exchange the ideas on the projects. At the forum, various symposiums and excursions to visit the cites of industrial tourism.

E5 Sanpachi-no-ichi

Pop-up markets were common in the area; in 1957, it was set to be held on the days with number 3 and 8 each month. Due to the increasing traffic, the market had to move to narrower street. Yet now it’s back on the main street, filled with visitors. The market works not only as the location of selling/buying of vegetables and fruits but also for locals to communicate.

At the market, visitors will be able to purchase metal and bronze items at a discount of 20-50% off retail price. Sale items will include cutlery (knives, forks, spoons), kitchen tools (pots, pans, knives), homewares and traditional craft goods including tea canisters, saucers and pitchers.

The pop-up market has decades-long history and is held on the days with number 1 and 6 each month, attracting a lot of locals. More than 50 stalls gather, selling various products from daily necessities to fresh foods and clothes.
