Rice and vegetables lie at the heart of Niigata’s agriculture
JA ECHIGOCHUOU
Stretching across parts of Tsubame and Niigata City’s Nishikan Ward, the Echigo Plain is considered the best grain-producing area in Japan. The area's rich nature and soil allow farmers to produce a variety of products. As the festival takes place immediately after the rice reaping, visitors can visit the low-temperature granary, where more than 100,000 bags full of rice are stored, as well as one of the prefecture's rare greenhouses for garden saplings. During the festival they will hold a scallion harvesting workshop.
